Mission Statement

The mission of the Sanctuary at Solid Rock is to provide lifelong refuge, protection, and compassionate, individualized care for animals rescued from abuse, neglect, abandonment, and exploitation. We are dedicated to honoring each animal as an individual, supporting their physical and psychological well-being, and providing opportunities for natural behaviors, meaningful social relationships, enrichment, and choice.
Through humane education, advocacy, and community engagement, we strive to inspire compassion, promote respect for all living beings, challenge practices that cause animal suffering, and advance a world where animals are treated with dignity and are free from cruelty and exploitation.

About the Sanctuary at Solid Rock

The Sanctuary at Solid Rock is a Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) accredited nonprofit sanctuary and a program of Solid Rock Community School, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2004 in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

In July 2026, the Sanctuary at Solid Rock became the first school-integrated sanctuary to achieve GFAS accreditation, reflecting our commitment to high standards of animal care, welfare, safety, and responsible sanctuary operations.

Our sanctuary provides permanent refuge for rescued primates, exotic wildlife, birds, reptiles, and farmed animals, including individuals who have experienced abuse, neglect, abandonment, exploitation, or displacement. Each resident receives individualized care designed to support their physical and psychological well-being, natural behaviors, social relationships, and opportunities for enrichment, choice, and autonomy.

What makes the Sanctuary at Solid Rock especially distinctive is its integration with an educational institution dedicated to compassion, sustainability, and ethical responsibility. Through humane education, advocacy, and thoughtfully designed learning experiences, we help students and community members develop a deeper understanding of animal welfare, the consequences of exploitation, and our shared responsibility to protect vulnerable living beings.

Our educational approach prioritizes the dignity, autonomy, and well-being of sanctuary residents. Animals are never viewed as entertainment or exhibits, and educational opportunities are designed around their needs rather than requiring them to participate in human activities.

By combining lifelong sanctuary care with education and advocacy, the Sanctuary at Solid Rock seeks to create lasting change—protecting individual animals today while inspiring future generations to build a more compassionate and just world for all living beings.
