I was purchased to be a pet for a child who eventually got bored with me and then I sat in a tank neglected and alone. An adult household member eventually made the decision to rehome me and I made my way to Solid Rock. They said I was a boy, but SR found out I was a girl, so I got a new name and a new home all at once. I have human interaction every day at Solid Rock and enjoy it. I love the fresh produce they bring me. This enclosure is much bigger than my former home and a new habitat is being custom built for me at the new campus. I am a sweet happy girl.
Russian Tortoises live 40 years. so are rehomed often as pets. Russian Tortoises are docile and personable and enjoy interaction and recognize their people. Russian tortoises have been targeted as a food source for generations, causing a serious population decline. Russian Tortoises are land animals and can't swim. Female Russian Tortoises are larger than males. Russian tortoises dig a lot and burrow and like to disappear underground.A ‘creep’ is the word for a group of tortoises.Russian tortoises have both an exoskeleton as well as an endoskeleton. A shell is in three main parts: the carapace on the top, the plastron on the bottom, and the bridge that joins these pieces together. Every tortoise has ribs, a spine, and a collar bone inside its shell.
